You Don't Need Louisville, Go to a Derby Party Here

Saturday is a major day for horseracing fans, but you don’t actually have to be into the races to enjoy the Kentucky Derby.

It’s a national excuse to get together with friends, whether or not the idea of horses running is at all appealing. a mint julep and some southern food are at all appealing.

If you will be in Essex on Saturday, you can head over to a Kentucky Derby celebration at 124 River Road. The party starts at 4:30 p.m. and goes until 8 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person. You can learn more here.

The event benefits the Child & Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut.

Burtons Grill, in South Windsor, is hosting a watching party. You can place your bet, have some snacks and sip on – you guessed it – a mint julep or two. Party starts at 3 p.m. and continues to 6 p.m.

Foxwoods is going all out and the party, for 21 and up, starts at 10 a.m..

The viewing party will be in the Grand Pequot Tower Ballroom. Admission is free, but it’s $20 if you want a seat.

You’ll be able to bet on the race and you’ll get a free mint julep with a $25 wager.

Bring your favorite, or craziest, hat. The Kentucky Derby hat contest is at 4 p.m.

After the race, feel free to head on over to Scorpion Bar for the after party.

Former Celtic Ernie DiGregorio will be the host.
