The Pilot Pen’s happening in New Haven and the event is not just about what’s happening on the courts. There’s also what’s happening in the kitchens and the wine cellars.

Wednesday’s the day to be in New Haven for foodies, as the New Haven Wine and Food Festival tempts the taste buds. Thursday is the day for wine lovers.

If you go to the food festival, you’ll taste the best from 19 area restaurants and get a chance to meet celebrity author and chef Jacques Pépin -- close friend of Julia Child and French culinary wiz -- as well as some of the stars who are in New Haven for tennis.

Some of the exotic fare on the menu includes barbecue wild boar sliders from Foster's, baby shrimp chorizo from Thali and braised veal cheeks from Union League Café, according to the New Haven Advocate.

The tickets are not cheap, but if you can swing the cash, you’ll get your fill of New Haven cuisine and tennis.

There are two two-hour sessions. The first happens at noon. The second is at 5 p.m.

A wine tasting is included, as are box seats to the tournament. If you go the noon session, tickets are $105. Tickets for the afternoon session are $125.

Thursday is wine day at the tournament.

Georg Riedel, of the Riedel wine glass dynasty, will show you how the shape of the glass is as important as the wine that's in it.

Then, head outside to the Courtside Club to watch what’s happening on Stadium Court from an air-conditioned suite as you enjoy some light hors d'oeuvres and wine.

Tickets are $150 and include the workshop, suite pass, tasty morsels, a wine tasting and a Riedel Vinum Tasting Kit. (It includes four wine glasses, which would otherwise set you back $116.00.)

It all happens Thursday, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
