NYC Wine & Food Festival: NY Jets + Chefs Brought “The Ultimate Tailgate”

Although “Broadway” Joe Namath didn’t guarantee a Sunday victory at Saturday’s Jets + Chefs: The Ultimate Tailgate, he and co-host Mario Batali made sure fans left filled with confidence and some of New York’s most delectable culinary indulgences. When the legendary Super Bowl III championquarterback led a signature “J-E-T-S” chant alongside Batali and Jets owner Woody Johnson, Gang Green supporters made it loud and clear that they were ready for their rematch with the rival New England Patriots. The players certainly responded to the extra push during their 30-27 overtime win at MetLife Stadium.

The lively New York City Wine & Food Festival event (benefitting the Food Bank For New York City and No Kid Hungry) overlooked the West Side skyline from Pier 92’s vast top level. Bizarre Foods star Andrew Zimmern and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s Ty Pennington were a few of the notable guests in attendance. Zimmern called an audible and asked Namath to join him for an intimate and informative cooking demonstration on the main stage.

Fans blitzed representatives and stands from a variety of well-known NYC establishments, including 21 Club, Blue Smoke, Miss Lily’s, Shake Shack, and the Cronut hole haven Dominique Ansel Bakery. ABSOLUT Vodka Bloody Marys and Samuel Adams Lager and Octoberfest quenched foodie thirst while maintaining the festive tailgate vibe throughout the day. Several standout dishes included AG Kitchen’s pomegranate & grilled pineapple guacamole, Fette Sau’s beef tongue pastrami, Bill’s Bar & Burger’s veal, beef, and pork meatball with parmesan cream and tomato jam, and the 100% Black Angus seared filet mignon baguette from Pat LaFrieda MeatsWith so many unique tastes and personalities on site, it’s hard to imagine any attendees leaving without an enriched passion for food, football, and the whole NYCWFF spectacle. And with the Jets defeating Tom Brady’s squad 24 hours later, everyone truly went home a winner.
