Hartley, Dolson Extended USA U-19 Tryouts

While Geno Auriemma and a handful of former UConn players are in Las Vegas as part of a three-day workout for USA Basketball, a couple current Huskies have been invited to try out for the U.S. under-19 national team coached by Hartford coach Jennifer Rizzotti. (Who just so happened to be a part of Auriemma's first national championship team in 1995, and is our very early front runner to replace Auriemma should he ever retire.)

Rising sophomores Bria Hartley and Stefanie Dolson have accepted invitations to attend the 2011 USA Women's U19 World Championship Team Trials, according to a USA Basketball press release.

As freshmen, Hartley and Dolson played in all 38 games last season (starting 34 and 36, respectively), and both were integral to the Huskies' success. As the point guard, Hartley was tasked with running the offense, and Dolson, who showed marked improvement from November to April, provided an inside presence on both ends of the court. Hartley ended her first season in Storrs averaging 12.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and a 1 to 1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Dolson's final numbers: 10.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 82 percent from the free throw line (second on the team behind Maya Moore).

In addition to Hartley and Dolson, incoming UConn freshmen Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Kiah Stokes will also try out, as will Breanna Stewart and Morgan Tuck, 2012 recruits who have verbally committed to the Huskies.

According to the presser, "Trials will be held May 22-25 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. … The USA U19 World Championship Team training camp will open June 1-5 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. … The USA will train for four days before facing the Brazil U19 National Team on June 5. …

"Then on July 11-15, the USA U19 squad will reassemble for training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, before the team travels to Chile for its final preparations."
