Men and Women to Play at Stanford in '14-'15

Both the Huskies men's and women's basketball teams will travel to California to face Stanford next season. Geno Auriemma and the defending champs will face the Cardinal at Maples Pavilion on Nov. 17, according to MercuryNew.com. And Kevin Ollie and his defending champs will come to town two months later, on Jan. 17.

Both games will be shown on ESPN.

More details via Stanford's website:

One of the greatest rivalries currently in women’s basketball, Stanford and two-time defending national champion Connecticut have met 10 times over the past seven seasons with four of those matchups occurring at the NCAA Final Four. In one of the most significant moments in college basketball history, the Cardinal ended Connecticut’s NCAA-record 90-game winning streak in front of a packed Maples Pavilion and a rapt national-TV audience on Dec. 30, 2010, as Jeanette Pohlen produced 31 points, nine rebounds and six assists in Stanford’s 71-59 victory.

On the men’s side, Stanford’s 53-51 upset of No. 10/10 Connecticut last December in Hartford represented a signature victory for the Cardinal, which was the only non-conference opponent to defeat to the Huskies on their way to a national title. Stanford, which finished 5-2 against top-25 competition, notched its first road win over a top-10 team since beating No. 9/9 Washington State 67-65 in overtime on Feb. 2, 2008. Trailing 43-30 four minutes into the second half, Stanford limited Connecticut to just 5-31 (16.1 percent) shooting over the final 20 minutes. Connecticut had won 54 straight home games against non-conference foes dating back to 2007.

This is where we point out that the UConn women beat Stanford twice last season, including in the Final Four -- and on their way to their ninth national title.
