No Rio for Geno

During the London Olympics games, as Geno Auriemma led the U.S. women’s basketball team to its fifth-straight gold medal, commentators speculated.

Would the coach who has led the UConn women’s basketball team to national title after national title be back to coach the 2016 summer games?

Auriemma put that question to rest on Thursday. It’s someone else’s turn to lead, he said.

Auriemma said right now, he does not want to coach the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

It was a dream come true for the coach who helped six of his former UConn members win a medal.
Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Tina Charles, Maya Moore, Swin Cash and Asjhah Jones were all on the team.

While Auriemma does not intend to coach in Rio, Taurasi plans to be there and play.

"I'll be 34, in my prime. I'll be there," she said with a smile after winning the gold-medal game. "Why not? We got all the pieces to keep this going."
