Ollie Talks Incoming Freshman

Kevin Ollie contends that he's staying at UConn, despite the reported interest from NBA teams. In the meantime, incoming freshman Daniel Hamilton has yet to sign his letter of intent because, well, he wants to make sure Ollie's his coach. Which means that Hamilton won't put pen to paper to make it official until he shows up for classes this summer.

"From what I've heard from his family and from him, himself, he is all in with the University of Connecticut," Ollie said, via the Hartford Courant. "And that's the only thing I need to hear, it doesn't have to be a signature on a piece of paper. I see from his heart and his spirit he wants to be at the University of Connecticut."

The rest of the '14 recruiting class includes Rakim Lubin, junior college transfer Sam Cassell Jr., and NC State transfer Rodney Purvis, who has been with the Huskies since last summer.

"Great player, powerful player," Ollie said of Lubin, who has signed his letter of intent. "The other night he said he was 270 [pounds] now. I said 'You got to get down a little bit.' He said he wants to be like LeBron. I said, 'There's just one LeBron James. We don't want you playing at 270. ...

"He's going to be a great building block for us," Ollie continued. "Just a great rebounder, big in every way imaginable."

Ollie indicated that there could be an addition to the 2014 class because scholarships are available with DeAndre Daniels leaving for the NBA and Leon Tolksdorf transferring. Nothing's set in stone, however, because the coach may want to save those scholarships for the 2015 class.
