When the Huskies take the field for the 2013 season opener against Towson Thursday night, they'll do so with a new, state-of-the-art scoreboard. Earlier this month, there were concerns that the scoreboard -- designed and manufactured by Daktronics -- wouldn't be ready in time for UConn's first game. Both those worries were officially assuaged when Global Spectrum, which manages Rentschler Field unveiled the new scoreboard in a ceremony Wednesday.
“We are committed to providing the ultimate fan experience here at the stadium,” Global Spectrum’s Chris Lawrence, General Manager of Rentschler Field, said in a press release. “The installation of the new scoreboard will mark a new era in UConn football as we expect the fan interaction and general in-game atmosphere to improve significantly.”
More details via the release:
The main video display will measure approximately 28 feet high by 73 feet wide and feature a 15HD pixel layout to highlight live video and instant replays. It can also be divided into separate windows to show a variety of vivid graphics, colorful animations, up-to-the-minute statistics, scoring information and sponsor advertisements.
The two ribbon displays will provide the opportunity to showcase sponsors throughout events and provide up-to-the-minute statistics and game information. One of these displays will wrap around the fascia of the seating bowl featuring 20 millimeter line spacing and measuring more than 2 feet high by 210 feet wide. The other display will measure more than 2 feet high by 73 feet wide and feature the same 20 millimeter line spacing.
"We are proud to partner with Rentschler Field for this installation,” said Dave D’Amico, Daktronics sales representative. “The upgraded technology of the video display combined with the ribbon displays is sure to create more excitement during any event held at the facility.”
Hopefully that excitement includes the Huskies improving on previous back-to-back 5-7 seasons. That journey starts in earnest Thursday.
