Storrs Ranks Among Best Cities for College Basketball Fans

Storrs has made the list for one of the best cities for college basketball fans, according to a new WalletHub study.

The study focused on NCAA teams. Storrs ranked ninth out of the 291 cities considered in the analysis, which looked at seven key factors including the number of teams per city, winning percentage of each team, stadium capacity and social-media engagement. When the data was broken down by population size, Storrs ranked in at number five for cities with a population fewer than 100,000 people.

Storrs tied for first for most engaged college basketball fans with the likes of Chapel Hill, NC, Lawrence, Kan., Bloomington, Ill., East Lansing, Mich., and Morgantown, W. Va.

It wasn’t all good news for Connecticut. New Britain ranked dead last in the study, making it the worst city of college hoops fans, according to their analysis.

College basketball is big money – an estimated $9.2 billion was wagered on the 2016 NCAA tournament.
