UConn Defensive Backs Coach Matt Cersosimo Resigns

UConn defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator Matt Cersosimo, who spent eight years with the program, has resigned, according to multiple reports.

A wide receivers coach for much of his tenure in Storrs, Cersosimo moved to defensive backs coach this spring, coinciding with the arrival of new offensive coordinator TJ Weist, who also serves as the wide receivers coach.

SNY.com's John Silver reports that former UConn player Shane Fogarty could be tabbed to replace Cersosimo as defensive backs coach. Fogarty, a former walk-on and a graduate assistant with the Huskies, was an assistant at Fordham under former UConn coordinator Joe Morehead.

According to the Hartford Courant's Desmond Conner, Cersosimo is expected to take the head coach job at Conard High School in West Hartford -- from his father, whom he played for.

Even if Fogarty eventually replaces Cersosimo, it's not clear who will take over as recruiting coordinator. Cersosimo because the third UConn coach to leave the program this offseason, following Don Brown (now Boston College's defensive coordinator) and Clayton White (now NC State's running back coach).
