UConn Falls to Georgia Tech, Out of NCAA Tournament

Ryan Peurifoy scored on a throwing error in the ninth inning, and Georgia Tech beat UConn 7-5 to oust the Huskies from the NCAA tournament's Gainesville Regional on Sunday.

Peurifoy doubled to start the ninth and then scored on a sacrifice bunt when UConn pitcher Patrick Ruotolo's threw wildly to third. Tristin English added an RBI single for the Yellow Jackets (38-24), who advanced to play No. 1 overall seed Florida later Sunday. Tech has to beat the Gators twice to advance to the super regionals.

Georgia Tech used a five-run fourth, capped by Joey Bart's first collegiate home run, to open a big lead.

The Huskies (38-25) evened the game in the eighth on John Toppa's double, but faltered a few minutes later. Tech closer Matthew Gorst (2-1), who allowed just his third earned run of the season, pitched four innings for the victory.
