UConn Running Back Hyppolite Hurt in New Hampshire Crash

University of Connecticut running back Martin Hyppolite is hospitalized in New Hampshire after a car he was riding in was involved in a fatal crash in New Hampshire.

Hyppolite, 22, of Wakefield, Massachusetts, was a passenger in a car driven by Ryan Merchant, also 22, of Wakefield, Mass., police said.

Merchant’s 2004 Chrysler and a 2000 Buick driven by Bruce Larson, 74, of Durham, New Hampshire, collided on Route 4 in Durham around 8 a.m. on Saturday, according to a news release from police in Durham, New Hampshire.

Larson was found dead at the scene. Mechant was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

A UConn source said Hyppolite will be out of the hospital in a day or two, but will need rehabilitation and probably will not be able to play football in the fall.

Hyppolite played last year, but did not see any game action in 2011 because of a knee injury.
