UConn to Play Aboard Aircraft Carrier

UConn will spend Thanksgiving in paradise, playing in the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas, but they may never play on a more unique court than when they take part in the Carrier Classic in 2012.

The university signed a deal Friday to play in the second edition of the basketball game, which will be held aboard an aircraft carrier on San Diego Bay.

Coach Jim Calhoun and UConn President Susan Herbst say it's an honor to be picked for the game. The Huskies' opponent could be Kansas, Texas, Florida, Arizona or Illinois, according to Mike Whalen, Director of the Morale Entertainment Foundation, organizer of the event.

The inaugural Carrier Classic will be played on Nov. 11 - Veterans Day - between North Carolina and Michigan State on the flight deck of the U.S.S. Carl Vinson at North Island Naval Air Station, across the bay from downtown San Diego.

The date for UConn's Carrier Classic match-up has not been announced.
