“Dinner for Schmucks” Chased Away By “Inception”

With its original release date coming next month, "Dinner for Schmucks" has taken a second look at the competition and pushed itself back out of the way of the onrushing juggernaut that is "Inception." Smart.

"Inception," Director Chris Nolan's upcoming mind-heist epic starring Leonardo DiCaprio, basically has July 16 all to its lonesome, and promises/expects to do huge business, even into the July 23 weekend.

"Schmucks" was supposed launch that day, going up against Angelina Jolie's double-ought spy thriller "Salt." But rather than deal with "Inception"'s momentum and Jolie's sexy, "Schmucks" took a look down the calendar and saw July 30 just sitting there for the taking.

July 30 is the release date for "Charlie St. Cloud," which looks like a treacly mess starring Zac Efron; "Twelve," starring Chace Crawford and 50 Cent in a Joel Schumacher-directed drug-dealer saga; "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore" (pass); and "Get Low," an art-house dramedy starring Robert Duvall, Bill Murray and Sissy Spacek, which possesses zero risk of cutting into "Schmucks"' audience.
