It's Official: Rob Marshall Directing Johnny Depp in “Thin Man” Remake

Not exactly "Stop the presses!" level stuff, but sometimes it's nice to know you can put down the worry beads.

Rob Marshall, who's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" is out May 20, has signed on to reunite with Johnny Depp for a remake of "The Thin Man," according to an oven-fresh press release:

Rob Marshall and John DeLuca have officially signed on to the Warner Bros. planned remake of THE THIN MAN.  The pair will produce the film via their LUCAMAR Productions banner.  Award-winning director Marshall is also confirmed to direct...

Says Marshall, "John and I are overjoyed at the idea of working with Johnny again, especially on such a classy and classic project.  We are also thrilled to be partnering this time with such wonderful producers as Christi Dembroski and Kevin McCormick, and we are looking forward to working with Warner Bros. to create a reinvention of a beloved story."

Remaking a film as funny, smart and great as "The Thin Man" is a daunting task to say the least, but having Depp in the role that made William Powell famous is a good start. Let's hope they do equally well casting his wife, who was played to perfection by Myrna Loy. As for Asta, my dog could play that part.
