Edgar Wright Hired to Helm Johnny Depp's “Night Stalker” Adaptation

Johnny Depp's forthcoming re-imagination has found a director who may bring to bear on the film more originality than Depp will know what to do with.

Edgar Wright ("Scott Pilgrim vs. The World," "Shaun of the Dead") has been hired to direct Depp in an adaptation of the "The Night Stalker," reported Deadline.

Back in the '70s Darren McGavin starred in a made-for-TV move about investigative reporter Carl Kolchak, who starts to believe that a serial killer the Vegas cops are after is actually a vampire. The "film" was so popular it spawned a sequel and eventually a series.

We've had our fill of Depp and his wasting of his own talent, but we loved Wright's "Scott Pilgrim," and his involvement in the project gives us hope. We just hope it doesn't distract him too much from "Ant Man" and "The World's End."
