It’s that time of year again: back to school!
But so many local children are in dire need of help filling their backpacks. NBC Connecticut and Comcast are partnering to support the Boys & Girls Club of Hartford and the Urban League with our School Supply Drive.
Help local students get the supplies they need to succeed by donating on Thursday, August 25, from 4-7 p.m. at the Sears parking lot at 1445 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford.
Kindergarten through 8th grade students are in the greatest need of backpacks, but here is a list of other supplies that are needed:
- Backpacks that can reasonably fit a 3 inch, three ring binder and other school materials
- 3 ring binders with pockets
- 3 hole, colored subject divider tabs
- Sturdy zippered pouches to go in three ring binder
- Pencils
- Pens
- Erasers and eraser pencil toppers
- Loose leaf, college ruled, three hole punched notebook paper
- Various colored highlighters
- Six inch rulers with holes to go in three ring binder
- Portable dictionaries
- Portable thesaurus
- Dual language portable dictionaries: Spanish, French, Bosnian, Albanian, Turkish, Russian, Swahili
- Calculators
- 1 gallon plastic Zip-Lock, resealable baggies
- Fancy duct tape
- Teacher/classroom super sturdy, heavy duty three-hole punchers
- Black permanent markers
- Magic markers, various colors
- Construction paper, various colors, 11 x 17 and 8 1/2 x 11
- Small, portable staplers and staples
- Staple removers
- Compact student scissors
