One person died when a tour bus belonging to Miley Cyrus overturned, but the 16-year-old "Hannah Montana" star was not on board, according to Virginia State Police. The deceased has been identified as William Douglas, 53, of Austin, Texas.
Sgt. Thomas Molnar said the black-and-maroon luxury tour bus overturned at about 8:15 a.m. Friday on Interstate 85 at the 55-mile marker, about 40 miles south of Richmond.
The bus -- one of four headed to Cyrus' next concert in Greensboro, N.C. -- was traveling in a southbound lane when it ran off the left side of the road to the left and overturned onto its right side, according to Corrine Geller of the Virginia State Police. The bus apparently skidded for several hundred feet.
Geller said members of Cyrus' production crew were on the bus. Police were waited to share the identity of the victim until his next of kin was notified. One of the other nine passengers had minor injuries.
One of the first responders at the scene said most of the passengers got out of the bus through the front windshield before help arrived.
"I think they were just trying to make heads or tails of what had happened," one firefighter said at the scene. "I think most of them were asleep or lounging at the time of the accident."
According to Miley Cyrus' Web site, the pop singer is scheduled to perform Sunday in Greensboro.
Miley Cyrus is the daughter of country star Billy Ray Cyrus, who also appears on the family friendly sitcom "Hanna Montana."
