The comedian suffered a stroke related to diabetes in October

Comedian Patrice O'Neal, who suffered a stroke in October, has died. He was 41 years old.

Gregg "Opie" Hughes, co-host of the SiriusXM radio show "Opie and Anthony" which frequently had O'Neal on as a guest, confirmed the death via Twitter.

"Yes it's true that our pal Patrice O'Neal has passed away," wrote Hughes. "The funniest and best thinker i've ever known PERIOD. #devastated."

O'Neal's stroke was related to diabetes. His last performance was in September, when he participated in the Comedy Central roast of Charlie Sheen.

Close friend and fellow comedian Jim Norton, who first reported O'Neal's condition last month, tweeted, "I couldn't possibly love a friend more than I love you. Goodbye brother."

O'Neal was a fixture on the New York comedy scene, and made frequent appearances on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," "Late Show with David Letterman," "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn" as well as the TV series "The Office" and "Arrested Development."
