A viral infection sent jazz great Dave Brubeck to the hospital, but now the 88-year-old musician is recovering and looking forward to getting back in the road, his son said.

The legendary jazz pianist and composer was released from Norwalk Hospital last week and home in Wilton.

Brubeck's illness made him miss a show April 3 at his alma mater, the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif. He was to perform his 1959 groundbreaking album "Time Out" to honor its 50th anniversary.

But the show did go on, with Brubeck's eldest son, Darius, filling in. Brubeck has several shows set for this year, including the Toronto Jazz Festival on July 1.

Chris Brubeck said his dad hopes to be well enough to perform in a few weeks.
