Jimmy Fallon Challenges Ricky Gervais to “Funny Face Off” on “Tonight”

Jimmy Fallon challenges Ricky Gervais to a round of “Funny Face Off” on “The Tonight Show.”

Ricky Gervais is such a versatile comic actor and writer, he often makes comedy look effortless.

Known for co-creating the original (British) version of “The Office” and helming the “Ricky Gervais Show,” the British comedian also earned a Golden Globe nomination for “Derek,” which aired a one-hour Netflix special on Friday.

But his latest bit on "The Tonight Show" was literally child's play.

In his "Tonight" appearance Friday night, Gervais joined Jimmy Fallon for a game of “Funny Face Off," as the two comics took turns mimicking the "funny faces" from videos that kids sent to the show.

That’s when Gervais ran into trouble — simply because the kids lacked facial hair.

“I’ve got a beard — that’s not fair!” he complained to Fallon. “You’ve got a pudgy, naked face. I’ll never win.”

“What are you talking about?” Fallon shot back. “This is a normal, non-pudgy face.”

“No,” Gervais said. “I’m way too handsome with a beard to do this.”

As is his Friday-night custom, Fallon also took some time to catch up on his weekly thank-you notes. On this week’s ‘nice’ list: Easter, Passover dishes, and NBC’s upcoming live musical production of “The Wiz.”

“Thank you, people who only go to church on Easter Sunday,” Fallon wrote, “for being the religious equivalent of people who only floss 10 minutes before a dentist appointment.”

Fallon’s sideman, Steve Higgins, was quick to poke fun at the name of NBC’s upcoming production.

“‘The Wiz’ was the number one musical,” he cracked.

“It wasn’t number two?” Fallon responded.

“Nope. Number one,” Higgins quipped.

“I tried to watch,” Fallon said. “It was streaming.”

Actress Jordana Brewster also stopped by Studio 6B to talk about her new movie “Furious 7,” which opened in theaters Friday.

Their chat wasn’t exactly elegant: Brewster’s voice was so hoarse from promoting the movie that she said she sounded like the famously gruff Vin Diesel. And when she and Jimmy cracked into a huge chocolate egg she brought from her native Brazil, the chocolate gummed up the works even more.

(Brewster and her co-stars had done something right: “Furious 7” opened to overwhelmingly positive reviews and big box-office sales, and is poised to be one of the franchise’s most popular installments. “I think it’s gonna be one of the biggest ever,” Fallon said, in between bites of chocolate.)

Friday’s episode featured two musical guests. Sultry-voiced rock singer Elle King performed her single “Ex’s & Oh’s” from her album “Love Stuff,” while famed country artist Boz Scaggs sat in with The Roots.

"The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" returns Monday with Michael Douglas, Kat Dennings and musical guest St. Vincent.
