“Breaking Bad” Saul Goodman Spin-Off A Go

While fans of AMC's "Breaking Bad" are anticipating the series' finale with equal parts delight and dread, there is a bright spot on the horizon for those leaning more toward the latter emotion.

Saul Goodman, the always charming but decidely shady legal eagle played by Bob Odenkirk on the hit drama, will return in his own spin-off prequel tentatively called "Better Call Saul." The title is taken from the character's famous catchphrase of the same wording.

AMC and Sony Pictures Television announced Wednesday that they have reached a licensing agreement for the spin-off, and that the one-hour episodic will follow the evolution of Goodman prior to his meeting with and becoming the go-to lawyer for "Breaking Bad's" meth kingpin Walter White (Bryan Cranston).

The Goodman character has been a fixture on the hit series since his introduction in season 2.

"Better Call Saul" will star Odenkirk and be spearheaded by writer/producer Peter Gould. Vince Gilligan, the creator of "Bad," will reportedly remain involved in the new venture. Back in July during the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, Gilligan said it was his "fervent wish" that the then rumored spin-off get off the ground.

Sadly for die-hard fans of the original series, Wednesday's announcement came with no details regarding the highly-anticipated finale of the Emmy-winning show.

"Breaking Bad" airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. on AMC. The series finale is scheduled to air Sept. 29.
