“The Voice”: Team Blake's Holly Tucker Heads Home

Team Blake was cut down to size Tuesday — and all the other coaches, each of whom has only one contestant left, exhaled in relief.

Team Blake finally got the axe "The Voice" Tuesday night, after a few weeks escaping the eliminations unscathed, when Holly Tucker headed home.

That was tough news for the singer, who had been one third of all-country Team Blake, but it spelled a welcome reprieve for the rival other teams, all barely hanging on with just one contestant each left standing.

That left as the final five left in the competition Team Shakira's Sasha Allen, Team Adam's Amber Carrington, Team Usher's Michelle Chamuel and Team Blake's Danielle Bradbery and Swon Brothers.

Last season's winner Cassadee Pope, herself a Team Blake graduate, kicked off Tuesday night, performing her new single "Wasting All These Tears" and giving the six "Voice" hopefuls heading into the night's eliminations a taste of what could be in store for them.

Afterward, Michelle and Sasha joined for a duet to Madonna's "Open Your Heart," as they strutted around the stage and flashed smiles, clearly enjoying the task.

Next came another smile from Michelle, as Carson Daly assembled the contestants and announced her name as the first person saved by viewers' votes. (That marked the second week in a row she'd been spared the suspense; she was the first announced safe last week, too.)

And then, more suspense — in the form of a segment on the trip that Michelle, Danielle, the Swon Brothers and Holly made to Oklahoma last month to help tornado recovery efforts there. All four performed at Blake's "Healing in the Heartland" benefit concert for victims, singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" together a capella for an audience of thousands.

Back on "The Voice" stage afterward, Amber, still on pins and needles along with four of her competitors, praised her coach Adam for the way he helped her develop her confidence.

Sasha, however, was the next singer handed good news. She was saved by America's votes, on the strength, no doubt, of two riveting and wildly different performances Monday night.

Next, the Swon Brothers and Holly Tucker joined to perform the Wreckers' country heartbreak anthem "Leave the Pieces," as both acts — both still waiting for good news from Carson — braced for possible heartbreak themselves.

That good news was reserved for their teammate, 16-year-old country prodigy Danielle. (Her stumped response to Carson's question about what she'd be doing if not for "The Voice" was yet another reminder of how young she is. "Hanging out with my friends," she said.) Danielle was safe, Carson announced.

That left Amber, the Swon Brothers and Holly still waiting their turn, and it likely made for a tough task for Amber to duet with Danielle on "Eternal Flame" just then.

But after they had put down their mics, Amber was the next singer saved. Adam, who had clearly been worried, heaved a sigh of relief.

"I love you, I love you, I love you," he told his last hope with a huge hug as she left the stage.

With that, it was clear that somebody was going to get cut from Team Blake, whittling down the country power team's enormous advantage so far in the playoffs. But Blake said he knew it had to happen sometime.

"We've kept the team together for a long time now, a long time," he said, crediting his team members' hard work with their longevity. "I'm very proud of all of them."

And with that, Carson announced the Swon Brothers were safe — meaning Holly was out.

Next week, "The Voice" will get its final four.

"The Voice" airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c.
