The People's Choice Awards ushered in the 2013 awards season Wednesday night, and honored the most popular actors, musicians and entertainers in the industry.

"The Hunger Games" devoured its competition emerging the top victor with five trophies. Katy Perry was runner-up with three awards at the fan-powered ceremony that named winners in categories spanning music, movies and television.

"Hunger Games" was named favorite movie, action movie and movie franchise and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth had fans' favorite on-screen chemistry. Lawrence also won favorite movie actress and "face of heroism."

Perry was the fans' favorite female artist and pop artist. Her video for "Part of Me" also won.

Jennifer Aniston claimed the first prize of the night, beating out four other nominees for favorite comedic movie actress.

"I love the people," Aniston said as she accepted her crystal trophy, adding that if it weren't the support of her fans, she wouldn't have been able to "keep doing this" for almost 20 years.

Adam Sandler won the other top comedy prize, favorite comedic actor.

For the 13th consecutive year, Ellen DeGeneres was named favorite daytime TV host and she offered "to hug each and every one" of her fans, but then added that "it's flu season and that's not happening."

On the heels of winning her fifth consecutive American Music Award in November, Taylor Swift added yet another accolade to her collection with the prize for favorite country artist.

Actress Sandra Bullock, meanwhile, accepted the first-ever favorite humanitarian award for her dedication to a New Orleans high school damaged in Hurricane Katrina, while singer Christina Aguilera was honored with the people's voice award for her ability to "to reach millions of fans both at home and abroad, across pop, soul and R&B genres."

Information gleaned from national rating averages, box-office grosses, music sales, and votes from PeoplesChoice.com helped determine nominees.

"Big Bang Theory" actress Kaley Cuoco hosted the 39th annual award show at the Nokia Theatre, where performers included Christina Aguilera, Jason Aldean and Alicia Keys.
