“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” Memorabilia to Hit Stores on Sept. 4

"Star Wars" fans will finally be able to get their hands on merchandise tied to the upcoming film "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" at a global event on Sept. 4, Walt Disney Company announced.

The memorabilia will be available just after midnight at major retailers and Disney stores around the world in a “unique celebration,” the company said.

The company added that products will include: toys, books, collectibles, comics, e-books, apps, apparel and lifestyle accessories. Other products will be sold online at Disneystore.com.

“Every lightsaber, every action figure, every LEGO set tells a story for generations of Star Wars fans, and this global event is a celebration of those stories. We’re excited to be part of the countdown to this enormous movie moment,” said Josh Silverman, executive vice president, global licensing, Disney Consumer Products.

The company is encouraging fans to use the hashtags #ForceFriday and #MidnightMadness to share their experiences on social media.

The announcement was made on Sunday, ahead of the unofficial "Star Wars" holiday May the Fourth.

"The Force Awakens," coming to theaters Dec. 18, will be the first movie released by the sci-fi franchise in 10 years, Reuters reported. Back in 2012, Disney acquired "Star Wars" producer Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion.
