Snape Voted Greatest “Potter” Character in MTV Poll

The fans have spoken, and the Potions Master reigns supreme

Severus Snape, FTW!

Though he was often described in the "Harry Potter" series as “greasy haired,” with “billowing robes” the Potions Master was voted the greatest character in the “Harry Potter” series, according to a new MTV poll.

Bellatrix Lestrange, played by Helena Bonham Carter, was named favorite villain in a separate poll, even over Harry’s blonde-haired nemesis Draco Malfoy. Voldemort wasn't even a contender.

(Spoilers below!)

Snape, who is brought to life by Alan Rickman, had a deceptive and serpentine plotline. Though he’s always disliked Harry, we find at the 11th hour that he’s protected him throughout the years out of solidarity and love to Harry’s mother (read the books—we promise, they’re fantastic).

In a NextMovie.com readers’ poll, more than 36,000 voters said the death of Headmaster Albus Dumbledore was the most unforgettable moment in the series.

As for a magical device mere Muggles wished existed in real life? It wasn’t the Put-Outer, and it wasn’t the Firebolt. The most popular item, according to the NextMovie.com poll was Hermione’s time turner from “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.”

Other heavy rankers? Fans said Neville Longbottom, the forgetful friend of Harry, should get his own spin-off movie or book, followed closely by the Quibbler-reading Luna Lovegood.

Fans also weighed in on the main actor’s future careers in Hollywood, and who might be most successful. Voters said Rupert Grint (Ron Weasly) won by 43%, followed by Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) at 22%, and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) trailing behind at 17%.
