Letterman Extortionist Gets a New Gig

Robert "Joe" Halderman was fired from CBS after trying to bribe the late night host

Thing are looking up for the ex-CBS producer who spent four months in prison for trying to extort David Letterman.

Robert "Joe" Halderman started a new gig at "On the Case with Paula Zahn," a weekly news program on the Investigation Discovery Channel, the Daily News reported.

"We have been impressed with Joe Halderman's professional accomplishments as an Emmy award-winning producer for '48 Hours' and CBS news," Scott Weinberger, the show's executive producer wrote in a statement. "With the network's prior approval, the team has brought Halderman on as a producer."

Quite a rebound from 2010, when Halderman made headlines for threatening to expose an extramarital affair between Letterman and Stephanie Birkitt, a woman Halderman had also dated.

Instead of a $2 million payoff from the late-night host, Halderman got six months in jail (though he only served four), five years probation and 1,000 hours of community service.

Since leaving prison in September 2010, Halderman's believed to have done some production work, but nothing as significant as his new Discovery gig.
