Michelle Obama to David Letterman: “Don't Make Me Cry”

Says president is "always upbeat — particularly about Congress"

First Lady Michelle Obama visited David Letterman on "The Late Show" for the first time Monday — and while the conversation mostly skirted politics, the pair got in a dig at the notoriously deadlocked Congress.

"At the end of the day, has your husband ever come home and said to you, 'Oh, that John Boehner, what an idiot?'" Letterman asked the first lady.

Michelle Obama gamely laughed.

"It has never happened. Never, never. He is always upbeat — particularly about Congress," she said with a straight face, but knowing look, of her husband's very public clashes with congressional leaders.

The first lady also chided her host for getting into maudlin territory as she talked about her childhood and her parents.

"Don't make me cry! This isn't Oprah!" she said.
