Connecticut Boosts Tourism Campaign in Northeast, Less on TV

    The Charles W. Morgan, the world's last wooden whaling ship, sailed alongside whales again Friday.

    Connecticut will increase its presence in Northeast cities to draw upscale tourists.

    Officials from the Connecticut Office of Tourism told local tourism and municipal leaders on Tuesday that they'll budget more money for marketing campaigns in New York's borough of Manhattan, Boston and Philadelphia and less in television ads, the Bulletin reports. ( )

    The Manhattan campaign will include ads promoting Connecticut at Grand Central Terminal, the Time Warner Center, Broadway and Columbus Circle, among other places.

    Randy Fiveash, Tourism Division director, and Marketing Director Barbara Cieplak said 70 percent of Connecticut's tourism business comes from New York, Boston and within the state, in Hartford.

    Mohegan Sun Casino already is reaching into the Manhattan market in a deal with a New York City helicopter service that offers weekend flights to the casino.
