Task Force on Behavioral Health Services for Young Adults Releases Final Report

The Task Force on Behavioral Health Services for Young Adults, which convened after the tragic shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, has been taking a hard look at how mental health is treated in the state. On Tuesday, the group is releasing its final report, which includes 47 recommendations to the state legislature, ranging from identifying mental illness sooner to ensuring there are enough health care providers to treat it.

Twenty 20 young children and six educators were gunned down by Adam Lanza during the school shooting in 2012 and revelations of Lanza’s behavioral health issues sparked calls for an in-depth investigation into the state’s mental health care system.

During 13 meetings, the task force brought together clinicians, treatment providers, state agencies and the insurance industry.
