Door wide open on Metro North Train

MTA says it will inspect all train door after seeing footage of train riding with open door. (Published Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011)

Metro North is inspecting all its train doors after being stunned by this Youtube video.

The footage shows a commuter train with one of its doors wide open as it speeds toward Grand Central Station Monday.

The video shows how dangerous it could have been as passengers on board the 8 a.m. from New Canaan as passengers lingered near the open door as the train roared down the tracks.  Nobody was hurt.

Metro North called this footage "very concerning." The agency said it has identified the defective train and then impounded it for repairs.

Metro North also  promised that all train doors will be re-tested before trains begin their first run of the day.

They also said that having a door open enroute is an "extremely unusual occurrence."
