The freezing temperatures have created a mess in the town clerk’s office in Old Saybrook.
Early Monday morning, as temperatures hovered below zero in places, a sprinkler head outside the clerk's office broke off, flooding that wing of town hall, the Day of New London reports.
Now, that office and the registrars' offices are expected to be closed for the next few days and reopen on Thursday.
Some papers were wet but there is no damage to records or important documents, the selectmen's executive assistant told the newspaper.
