This Weekend: Groove to the Music

It's party time again this weekend at Seaside Park in Bridgeport. Tens of thousands of fans will be groovin' to the music at the 15th Annual Gathering of the Vibes. The 60s inspired music festival started in 1995 after Jerry Garcia, of the Grateful Dead, died at age 53. Today, it features dozens of bands performing on two stages. The festival runs through Sunday. Tickets are available at the gate. They range in price from $80 for an individual day pass to $240 for a weekend camping pass.

If you prefer country music, head to the Comcast Theatre in Hartford. In the midst of their "Nothing Like This" tour, Rascal Flatts take the stage on Saturday. Joining the boys on the road this summer is former "American Idol" contestant Kellie Pickler. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.

In Middlefield, Lyman Orchards' 4th annual Sunflower Maze opens on Saturday. This year, organizers took a turtle theme and ran with it. The hundreds of sunflowers provide the perfect setting for a walk at a slow and steady pace. The maze is open through Sept. 6. For each ticket sold, Lyman will donate $1 to Connecticut Children's Medical Center.

Don't forget about Taste of Hartford. You can get a three-course gourmet meal for only $20.10. Taste of Hartford runs through Aug. 8 at dozens of restaurants. Tickets are not necessary, but reservations are strongly recommended.  For a list of the restaurants involved, click here.

You don't need to travel all the way to Napa Valley or the south of France to sample some great wines. The Connecticut Wine Festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Goshen Fairgrounds. You can sample local wines and specialty foods, as well as enjoy arts and crafts and live entertainment. Admission is $25 for the day or $40 for the weekend.
