Hospital Put on Probation

Numerous violations found by the state will have St. Francis Hospital on probation for a year.

The state has placed Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford on probation for a year.
Regulators cited the death of a patient in June, after a pump used during a heart procedure failed.
The state says the hospital used the device within for days of the malfunction, without having the pump inspected.
"Saint Francis wishes to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the patient who passed away following surgery that prompted this review of our policies, procedures, and administrative protocols," hospital officials said in a statement.
