The NAACP of New Haven has started a fundraising campaign to help with relief efforts in Haiti.  The NAACP, along with Yale-New Haven Hospital and other community groups, has already raised $10,000 in the past 24 hours.  It’s looking to raise much more.

NAACP member and Yale-New Haven Hospital Business Manager, Ralph Jean-Mary, has family just outside of Port-au-Prince.  Fortunately, they survived the crash, but said it will take weeks just to remove the dead and treat the wounded.  They need all the help they can get.

“We’ll need food, water, they’ll be some work associated with construction and letting people get out of Port-au-Prince and get out into other cities in the country as to decongest the Port-au-Prince area right now.  So any aid that can be brought forward will be highly appreciated by the people of Haiti,” said Jean-Mary.

The groups are looking for monetary donations at this time.  Checks should be made payable to The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.  In the memo section, write NAACP Haitian Fund.

Checks can be mailed to:

The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven
70 Audubon Street
New Haven, CT 06510

The foundation will soon be posting a link on its website, www.cfgnh.org, for credit card donations.
