Man Shot Near Indian Reservation

A man was shot near an Indian reservation on Saturday.

A Norwich man was shot multiple times near the Mashantucket Peaquot Reservation early Saturday morning.

Elison Canuto was at a large house party at 3 Wampey Road when he was shot, said state police.

State police say that the suspect shot Canuto several times at close range with a handgun, which state police later recovered nearby.

Canuto was transported to W.W. Backus Hospital where he was treated before being transported to Hartford Hospital by Life Star.

Canuto underwent emergency surgery at Hartford Hospital and is listed in critical condition, according to state police.

The State Police Major Crime Detectives is handling the criminal investigation.
