Connecticut Supreme Court Justice Christine Vertefeuille will soon only hear cases as needed

Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced the name of a Superior Court judge to fill the seat on state's Supreme Court that's being vacated by Justice Christine Vertefeuille.  Vertefueille has decided to take on a limited role.

Rell nominated Judge Dennis G. Eveleigh of Hamden Wednesday.

Her announcement comes the same day Vertefeuille informed Rell that she will take "senior status" beginning of June 1.  That means she could hear Supreme and Appellate Court cases on an as needed basis.

Vertefueille, 59, of Cheshire was nominated by former Republican Gov. John G. Rowland in 1999.  The Democrat  joined the state Supreme Court in January 2000.

Rell also announced she is nominating 10 people to the Superior Court, filling vacancies left  by promotion, retirement and other moves.  The names included her budget director Robert Genuario and Public Safety Commissioner John A. Danaher III.
