One woman in her 80s was killed and another was injured when a large tree fell on top of their car while they were driving along Route 68 in Prospect Sunday.

Elizabeth Brown, 85, of Guilford and Marylyn Powers, 89, of Minneapolis, Minn. were traveling along the intersection of Rt. 68 and Cook Road just before noon when a tree fell down from the side of the roadway, state police said.

Both women were taken by Campion Ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury. Brown was pronounced dead after she arrived at the hospital. Powers is recovering at the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
