Friendly’s has filed for bankruptcy, and reports state that seven local restaurants will be closing.
The company filed for chapter 11 on Wednesday.

The restaurant chain will close 63 restaurants it says are under-performing and 424 will remain open.

Friendly's blames "the challenges of the current economic downturn, significantly increased costs, particularly in commodities such as cream, rents that exceed current market rates and certain of the Company's current unrelated liabilities."

The Connecticut Friendly's stores slated to close include:

  • Boston Post Road, Guilford
  • Buckland Mall, Manchester
  • Main Street, Meriden
  • Storrs Road/University Plaza, Storrs
