Dave Sloan’s daily workouts have started with a walk to a nearby Manchester gym for years, but that is coming to an end. On Feb. 8, Bally’s Total Fitness will close the Manchester location.

The closest one is 15 miles away, in West Hartford.

“I was disappointed. It means I'll have to drive someplace,” Sloan said. “They're a pretty nice facility on the whole, but closeness is of paramount importance to me, so I think that governs where I'll go.”

Bally's is adding six new gyms nationwide but closing in Manchester because its lease will soon end, according to a sign posted.

A call to Bally's was not immediately returned.

Sloan said the company is giving clients a way out of their contracts.

“My understanding is that if you call up Bally's, they'll terminate your contract and refund your money,” Sloan said.

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said his office would look into getting refunds for Bally's customers, even if the company is giving them the option to go to another location.
