Internet giant Google aids local businesses in establishing online presence, positioning them for future growth.
Google is teaming up to get small businesses in Connecticut online.
Google and Intuit are running a program called Connecticut Get Your Business Online, that provides Connecticut businesses tools and resources to build an online presence.
Small businesses need to be online, because that is where the customers are, but 53 percent of small businesses in the state do not have Web sites, according to the Web site for the program.
The first launch event was held on Wednesday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford. You can also get online through Connecticut Get Your Business Online.
Companies that participate get a free, easy-to-build, professional website from Intuit, a free customized domain name and hosting for one year, a free local business listing on Google Places and free tools, resources and local events.
You can check out success stories like The Cheese Truck in New Haven.
"If we didn't have a website, we wouldn't get to go to a new location everyday," co-owner Tom Sobocinski said, "I wanted the website to be really exciting but at the same time clean and simple. I don't want you to get lost. I want you to see our menu."
There are three easy steps to get your three-page website for a year. The site will help you pick a domain, choose a design and customize and publish.
And if you like the site you can keep it for just $4.99 a month and the domain name for $2 dollars more a month.
