Welcome to Redding, home of six-figure salaries and cows. Would that be the town of the cash cows?
Whether you make six figures or you're just looking for a nice, quiet place to live, Connecticut has it. In a recent Money Magazine poll, six Connecticut towns appeared in the top 100 of America's Best Small Towns.
The highest ranked was Tolland at #27 that's up from #29 just four years ago. The town of just over 15,000 residents is in a rural setting, with winding back roads and lots of forest land. Here's a list of the other ranking towns, you can either consider yourself lucky to live there, or start checking out the real estate.
55. Somers - 11,800 pop.
57. Simsbury - 23,700 pop.
72. Cheshire - 29,600 pop.
75. East Lyme - 19,300 pop.
77. Trumbull - 35,900 pop.
If you're looking for more upper-crust towns, ones that may require a six figure income to take up residence, Redding is the place. With a population of 9,365, Redding ranked #4 on Money Magazine's Best Six-Figure Towns.
Located in Fairfield County, its no surprise that the median home price is $625,000, but next to those homes is sprawling farmland and livestock. In the early 1900's Mark Twain was drawn to the scenic beauty of Redding and ended up building a home there.
The town is now primarily a "bedroom community" that's well connected to the major corporate hubs of Stamford, Westchester County and Manhattan.
So, your choice, small town or small town with big dollar signs. Either way you can find it in Connecticut.
