These cars will not be for sale until Toyota fixes the pedal problem.
When Toyota recalled millions of vehicles, it started causing a headache for those who own the cars and trucks. In Connecticut, Toyota owners were already heading to the dealer asking if their cars are safe on Wednesday afternoon.
Connecticut based Consumer Reports advises Toyota owners not to panic. While there should be some concern, the odds that they’ll be affected are small, Consumer Reports officials say.
“There are 2 million vehicles within this recall,” David Champion, of Consumer Reports, said. “There’s only about 100 or 200 who’ve had this complaint.”
By Wednesday night, Toyota had recalled another 1.09 million cars and extended the recall to Europe, MSNBC reports.
Still, Connecticut Toyota driver are talking about the recall.
“I was scared to go to work,” said Lynnette Davis, who took her car to the Toyota dealer in Watertown.
The reason for the recall is a problem with the gas pedal. There have been several hundred cases of the pedal sticking, causing unaccepted and potentially dangerous acceleration. As many as 16 accident deaths could be linked to problem.
John Mocaldo, general manager at Barbarino Nissan in Wallingford, said customers have been asking him what’s going on with Toyota.
“It’s too soon in the game, but all of a sudden, people are starting to panic and unload their Toyotas,” Mocaldo said.
Toyota has shut down production at six North American plants.
