Groton's Electric Boat announced Monday it will eliminate the jobs of 96 carpenters. Meanwhile, Whole Foods is now hiring 200 employees.
Good news and bad news for Connecticut's job market on Monday.
First the good news.
Whole Foods plans to hire 200 employees for a new store that will open in Milford on Nov. 11 on 1650 Boston Post Road in the Milford Marketplace Shopping Plaza.
Now to the bad news.
Groton-based Electric Boat plans to cut 96 carpentry jobs at the Groton shipyard.
The company expects to have less work for the employees, according to a statement. Half of the 96 carpenters were hired in the past year to meet short-term demands.
Electric Boat officials said the layoffs will take effect on Dec. 4.
