A member of the Rell administration could be heading to the EPA to combat global warming. Good luck with that.
The commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection has been headhunted by President Obama's administration.
Gina McCarthy would be the first member of the Rell administration to leave for Obama's team, reported The Hartford Courant.
Two environmental activists said FBI agents performing background checks on McCarthy had interviewed them. One was Lori Brown, executive director of the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters.
The other was Julie Belaga, a former chief operating officer for the U.S. Export-Import bank and a board member of the league.
Neither woman knew exactly what the position was that McCarthy is being considered for, but Brown said it's a big role in the EPA involving global warming.
Brown told the Courant that McCarthy had earned high marks for her work with the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which is a push to reduce emissions in the Northeast contributing to global warming.
McCarthy also has been credited with strengthening relations between the DEP and the legislature after neglect and budget cuts during the Rowland administration.
