Green From the Feds to Go Green in Elm City

The city of New Haven is hoping a little green from the feds will help it become greener.
The city wants to put $1.3 million in stimulus funds toward launching a 3-year effort to save energy, cut costs and craft a long-term vision for greener environment. The money comes from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program.
The New Haven Independent is reporting that plans include creating New Haven’s first Office of Sustainability and making buildings more energy efficient, as well as focus on other ways to save money and the environment.
At the Board of Alderman’s meeting Monday, a proposal was introduced to apply for and accept a $1,263,500 grant. New Haven qualifies for the grant based on its population.
