For a while, it was touch and go on whether Aetna clients' insurance would be good at Hartford Hospital and MidState Medical Center.

After negotiations, the insurance company and the healthcare conglomerate have reached and agreement and your card will be good at those two hospitals, as well as at Windham Hospital, with Hartford physicians and for other outpatient and ancillary service facilities, according to a joint statement released on Thursday.

In October, Aetna refused to accept a 30 percent reimbursement increase to Hartford Healthcare over tow years and told its almost 200,000 members that contract would likely end, the Hartford Business Journal reported.

The contract would have ended in January, but the negotiations were successful and the agreed upon contract is good for two years.

“Hartford Healthcare has served this community for more than 150 years.  This new agreement ensures that our patients with Aetna insurance will continue to have uninterrupted access to the highest quality healthcare at Hartford Hospital, MidState Medical Center, and Windham Hospital,” Blazar said.

Mike Hudson, president of Aetna’s Northeast Region for Health Care Management, said the agreement will help the company control the rising cost of health care services.

“We also feel strongly that this agreement will allow us to develop new programs that will give us the opportunity to drive meaningful improvements in patient safety and chronic care management for our members,” Hudson said.
