Flu Cases Accelerating in Connecticut: Report

State public health officials say flu cases are up in Connecticut and the number is accelerating.

The Department of Public Health reports that as of Saturday, 444 people had tested positive for flu so far this season, according to Hearst Connecticut Media. The state says 180 people have been hospitalized with the flu.

No deaths have been reported.

Christopher Stan, health program associate at the state agency, says the number of flu cases in Connecticut is higher than average for this time of year, but the rate of hospitalization for flu is normal. He says flu activity is accelerating and urges people to be vaccinated.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported earlier this month that cases were widespread in 29 states.
