A bat bit a 10-year old Middletown boy 15 times.

Crystal Hintz said her son, Arlen, was just being a typical little boy when he came across the bat near Crystal Lake and picked it up. As Arlen approached his mom with the bat, it started biting his hands.

So, Hintz took the animal to a veterinarian and animal control to be tested for rabies. The animal was not rabid.

It is unusual to find a bat during the day because they are nocturnal, but a spokesman for the Department of Environmental Protection said white-nose syndrome, which has been killing off the bat population, might cause disorientation as well.
