A Bristol man is being held on a $5 million bond after being arrested for an execution-style murder over the weekend.
Fred Felix, 24, was killed after an early morning shooting Sunday in a public housing complex on Davis Drive in Bristol. Anthony Johnson, 20, was arrested early Tuesday morning and charged with his murder. Johnson appeared in Bristol Superior Court Tuesday afternoon where prosecutors said the crime was not just a murder, but an execution.
Police said 911 calls started pouring in around 2 a.m. for the shooting. Police responded to the area and found Felix suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Outside court, relatives of the victim said it happened as Felix tried to break up a fight. "He was defending someone else, trying to get him into the car so the fight wouldn't continue. For saving somebody, he lost his life," said Willie Reyes, the victim's cousin.
Felix was shot execution-style in the head several times right near a dumpster, according to his relatives. Bullets also ripped through his car. After the shooting, Felix's friends drove his car to the nearby police sub-station for help, but found it closed, according to the victim's relatives.
The police sub-station is not always manned, and was unmanned at the time of the shooting, police said.
During his court appearance, the judge called the evidence against Johnson strong and increased his bond from $3 million to $5 million, at the request of prosecutors. He is due back in court November 10.
Police continue to investigate the case and could make additional arrests.
